Two Weeks - One Goal

SLICE - School of Leadership Innovation Creativity & Entrepreneurship
2-Week Program in Palm Beach, Florida. Summer 2017. (July)

Our program is a unique blend of school, think-tank, and start-up incubator.

Core Principles:
  1. Practical Application of Education
PAE as you go! - (Pronounced “Pay as you go”)
Learning only makes sense when you can see why it matters. All theoretical lessons are applied in real world projects.

  2. Share Your Resources

Our school unites entrepreneurial professionals from around the world and immerses students in the Practical Applications of Education, with a focus on creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. Students complete real-world projects with the potential to reshape their local landscape and develop the tools and networks to build their own businesses.

Key Point: Mentors are Creators
In addition to working with creative teams and providing guidance to young entrepreneurs, mentors work together on their own projects, companies, entrepreneurial endeavours etc.
Through this program, we pool the resources of the group and look to make meaningful progress using the contacts and brainpower of the collective.

Diversity
Mentors come from diverse backgrounds such as Ireland, USA, Finland, Germany, Belgium etc. and unite around a common passion for sharing, creating, and redefining education.

Holacracy
Rather than a hierarchy, the team will serve as a holacracy, where self-governing groups work with autonomy towards a goal.

Expansion
SLICE plan for expansion mirrors the “laws of diffusion of innovation”:

  • Phase 1: Innovators - SLICE in Dublin
  • Phase 2: Early Adopters - SLICE in Multiple Locations (Fin, Esp, USA, Ger, Gre, Ire)
  • Phase 3: Early Majority - SLICE year-long programs
  • Phase 4: Late Majority - SLICE fully operational school system

Program Outline

Week 1 - “Good Company”
Theory:
Students learn theories of leadership, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship through texts such as Flow, Drive, Art of Learning, 4-hour Workweek, The Power of Full Engagement and Give and Take, including additional resources such as TED Talks.
Side project: Students upload classes to Udemy and compete for funds by end of program.
Practice:

Students assemble teams and partner with a administrators for the City of West Palm Beach. With their mentors, they tour the facility, interview workers at various positions, and experience the life of that company. Then, they return to HQ and prepare a presentation proposing the solution to a problem the company has (whether the company is aware of the problem or not). Finally, they present their idea to members of the Mayor’s office and perhaps even Mayor Muoio herself.
Week 2 - “The Company You Keep”
Theory:
Students learn all the ins and outs of starting and running a business, including registration, incorporation, web design, basic coding, social media marketing, SEO, etc. Texts such as $100 Startup and The Personal MBA (provided) are used during this segment.

Practice:
Students assemble teams and start a company. By the end of the program, they have their own project up and running, as well as the resources to continue working as a group in an online forum.
