Chess takeover

Picture

We received a grant from the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County for some coaching chess boards. The increase in interest to learn the game surpassed our wildest expectations.

Our Education Foundation of Palm Beach County grant for the smart chess boards from ChessUp exceeded our wildest expectations by sparking an incredible level of excitement and interest in learning chess among our students. What began as a project to introduce students to strategy, critical thinking, and problem-solving quickly turned into one of the most highly anticipated activities in our classroom and media center.

Students who had never played chess before were eager to learn, while experienced players became even more engaged as they challenged themselves against classmates and the interactive technology. The boards created an inviting, low-pressure environment where students felt comfortable practicing moves, learning strategies, and building confidence.

During free time, before school, and even during transitions, students consistently asked for opportunities to use the boards, often teaching one another and creating a strong sense of community around the game. The excitement surrounding chess spread far beyond our original expectations, proving that innovative, hands-on learning tools can inspire curiosity, perseverance, collaboration, and a genuine passion for learning.
